Pierre Emmanuel Paradis, Senior Economist
Working with colleagues
I am a senior economist in the Montreal office, but really I feel like I am part of many teams since I work with consultants from most Analysis Group offices. I am frequently a case team leader, and I try to establish a setting where everyone can contribute their work and ideas in way that is stimulating for all and still highly efficient.
Being able to have real impact
I am particularly proud of the work we did in the health care industry, in which we studied a controversial topic, the generic substitution of drugs used to treat epilepsy. Our team was the first to provide population-based evidence demonstrating that neurologists' concerns regarding generic substitution were well founded.
On a very different kind of case, under the leadership of our academic affiliate Professor Pierre Fortin, we helped to change Quebec's law on retail opening hours, which had prevented grocery stores from having more than four employees at work after 5:00 pm on weekends. Thanks to our work, Quebec citizens can now buy supplies for a spur-of-the moment barbeque on a Saturday or Sunday evening without having to wait half an hour in line!
Advice to new staff
New staff should aim to work on as many different projects as possible, to develop a wide skill set. You will learn so much from your colleagues – many firms can count on competent and efficient employees, but here, everywhere you look, you will find outstanding professionals. Also, I would encourage you to continue reading and learning, even if the demands of work can sometimes make it hard to find the time.
Fitting it all in
I try to spend as much time with my four young kids as possible – playing, reading to them, cooking together. I also participate in several sports, including competitive swimming, running, football, baseball, and hockey. And being from Montreal, I love to cook and enjoy fine wine.
